Animal Sales Policy

By choosing to place a deposit for one of our animals you are signalling your acceptance of our sales policy.

  1. Prior to purchase buyers must read, the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs, Small Lot Pork Production Manual, Small Lot BC Pork Producers Resource Package, and Swine Health Handbook.
  2. For biosecurity, it is a Canadian law that all breeding pigs must have their movements tracked by PigTrace Canada. Buyers must have or obtain a BC Premise ID or alternative ID from another province. Please register for one and provide us with your ID prior to the animals leaving our farm. Feeders do not require tracing at this time.
  3. Buyers are required to have a relationship with a swine vet prior to purchase to ensure the long-term health and safety of our animals.
  4. To be placed on our waitlist for piglets, please email us with what you are looking for.
  5. A 50% deposit is due when you reserve an animal. These deposits are non-refundable except in extenuating circumstances.
  6. As the breeder, we reserve the right to retain any piglet regardless of reservations and the right to refuse the sale of a pig or piglet to anyone, for any reason, at any point in the transaction, in which case your deposit will be refunded.
  7. Piglets must be picked up no later than 10 days after they are weaned and ready to go. At Heritage Hill Farm this is about 8 to 12 weeks in order to ensure they have the most vigorous and healthy start to life. If piglets are not picked up or arrangements made after 10 days of an agreed-upon date and contact cannot be established, we will consider your mind changed and that piglet will be put back up for sale.
  8. Full payment is due before the animal leaves the property. If you wish to pay at the time of pick-up, we ask you to please bring cash or send an e-transfer beforehand, we do not accept personal cheques.
  9. Pick-up: Please ensure you bring appropriate transportation for your animals. A crate with fresh, dry and clean bedding is the best option. If you already have swine on your property, for bio-security, we will meet you at our farm gate.
  10. Ground Delivery: We are able to travel up to 5 hours from Cobble Hill, BC to deliver by ground. Please be prepared to pay a delivery fee to help cover our time and fuel. Alternate third-party ground transportation may be arranged by the buyer at the buyer’s expense.
  11. Our piglets/pigs are guaranteed to be healthy when they leave our farm but because we cannot control the stress of shipping and the animal’s management or environment after it leaves our care, we do not offer any further health guarantees or refunds. For bio-security reasons, we cannot have piglets/pigs return to our farm once they have left the property.
  12. If you have purchased breeding stock, boars and gilts must be kept separate from six months to 12 months of age. While boars and gilts are separated, they should be kept with non-breeding barrows or same-sex companions for their wellbeing. To avoid infertility do not allow boars or gilts/sows to become overweight, do not postpone breeding gilts beyond 12-18 months, and plan on breeding gilts/sows at least once every 12 months to maintain fertility.
  13. For farm bio-security, we do not offer breeding or stud services.
  14. All breeding piglets/pigs will be registered with the IKHR or AKKPS.
  15. All piglets/pigs (breeders and feeders) will be tagged, vaccinated, dewormed, pre-snuggled, and loved before they leave for their new homes.
  16. As breeders, we always welcome questions.
